Backing Up

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The most important step before any upgrade is backing up your current install completely.

Backup Checklist:

Template Files - Any modified template files you may have in the themes/ folder will need to be backed up if you wish to keep those modifications. A good general practice is renaming your customized template folders to names other then the default template set names. This way, when you upgrade, you will not accidentally overwrite your themes. You can also backup your template file to a zip file prior to upgrading by clicking on the "Settings" > "Manage Templates" > "Backup Templates"
Product Images - Normally you do not need to backup your product images, but there are cases where you may accidentally delete folders and its always a good idea to have backups. Your images should be located in the images/products/ folder but if you changed the default images folder they can be located elsewhere. You can also backup your template file to a zip file prior to upgrading by clicking on the "Products" > "Manage Images" > "Image Backup"
Database - This is the most important thing to backup and there are a few ways that this can be done. You can either use the built in backup feature that is located in the SunShop admin area ("Settings" > "Manage Database"), or you can use a database tool such as PHPMyAdmin. Most hosting companies have access to this tool through their control panels and if there are issues down the line, this is the fastest way to backup and restore the database.
